Seun Kuti releases new EP Struggle Sounds
Nigerians and Afrobeat lovers across the world often wonder what songs and actions they would have witnessed from Fela Kuti, had he still been alive today. Fortunately, for the music world, Fela’s legacy continues to make waves to this day, through his highly talented sons Femi and Seun Kuti – the latter inheriting Fela’s band, Egypt 80. Seun has recently released his new 3-song EP Struggle Sounds via Sony Music Masterworks.
Co-produced by Robert Glasper, the EP features the single“Gimme My Vote Back (C.P.C.D.)” where C.P.C.D. stands for Corporate Public Control Department. Written by Seun, he recorded the EP with Egypt 80, his father’s original band. The three songs on the EP have strong social and political messages – themes that Seun weaves into all of this music.
More than even we are convinced of our mission and the purpose of our music. The Struggle Sounds EP is a true reflection of my social and political beliefs. I give honor to my parents and every revolutionary who made this possible even before I was born – says Seun.
