Africa Fashion Week London begins its countdown
Despite being less than 5 years old, Africa Fashion Week London is already one of the biggest and most important events in the calendar. If you’re anywhere near West London on 7th or 8th August, then we strongly recommend you attend, with tickets starting at just £7.
Zeitgeist is a great German word, meaning “…the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time”. If ever an event landed at exactly the right time to capture the ‘mood of the people’, then it was Africa Fashion Week London in 2011 – brainchild of Ronke Ademiluyi.
The first time it ran, teams of leaflet distributors scoured the streets around the venue, trying to encourage enough people to come in. Now the event is an easy sell-out with support from organisations like the KwaZulu-Natal Fashion Council (KZNFC) – which was established in 2009 to support the fashion design sector, through a strategic partnership.
Local youngsters, with a passion for fashion, can register their interest to volunteer for the event over here.
If you think your wardrobe style can compete with the best – and would like the chance to win a pair of VIP tickets for AFWL 2015 – then you can head over to this competition before 2nd August.
And it wouldn’t be Africa Fashion Week London without our friends Amy Ku and Dumile Dlamini – who are flying all the way in from Taiwan with their latest collections.
