Kenya prepares for 2nd International Fashion Fair
The Republic of Kenya is home to a population of more than 44 million people and, from 13th to 16th August, it will host the 2nd International Fashion Fair at the Kenyatta Centre in Nairobi. Thousands of visitors will attend, Africa Fashion takes a sneak peak at what they will see.
With over 150 companies exhibiting, the event promises to be a jewel in the local fashion calendar.
Organised by Turkel, based in Istanbul, a huge effort has been made to connect manufacturers of clothing, accessories and other fashion products with the African channel – i.e. Wholesalers, retail stores, shopping mall authorities and local fashion academies.
There is a strong push to ensure that fashion designers (established and up-coming) are also present, to absorb a unique flavour of the overall market. So many times, designers and other talents will work in isolation – perhaps not being fully aware of the supply chain that is necessary to bring great ideas to market. This show ‘completes the circle’.
The show will be promoted under the brand ‘The Fashionist‘ and is expected to draw in a crowd of up to 10,000 fashion channel specialists from across the continent.
It could represent a chance to see local hero designers like Kooroo in action.
