Vanessa Agyemang launches her Aztec Collection
Today sees the launch of Ghanaian designer Vanessa Agyemang’s latest collection, inspired by the historic cultures of central America. Copper Dust itself is a luxury home decor brand that specialises in bespoke, handmade lampshades and limited edition illustrations. The Aztec Collection provides a dramatic new addition to the Copper Dust catalogue.
In many ways, the intertwined/repeat patterns that we see in the Copper Dust Aztec collection are reminiscent of ancient Egyptian designs. Separated by 12,000 kilometres and more than 1,000 years, there is no clear link between the two cultures, yet the similarities in pattern are striking.
Vanessa‘s collection is available in 5 colours – all limited edition runs.
“The collection is inspired by the Aztec tribe and Mexican interiors. Contrasted with detailed prints, each lampshade is handmade and takes up to 6 hours to craft”, she explained.
Last year was very busy for Copper Dust.
“Oh yes, 2015 was a whirlwind experience”, Vanessa told us. “Copper Dust hit the home decor market with our Trio collection as well as our black and white portraits which were featured globally, getting exposure in World of Interiors, House & Garden and Elle Decor among others”.
Having graduated with an honours degree in Interior Architecture and Design, Vanessa also picked up a diploma in Interior Design. Before starting Copper Dust, she worked as a corporate interior designer and also did visual merchandising for Habitat in the UK.
“The Aztec Collection was by far the most challenging and rewarding to date”, she explained. “Blood, sweat and tears were needed to create these contemporary pieces, ready to inspire your living space”.
From a technical point of view, these 20cm lampshades are created in steel and 100% cotton fabric. Vanessa tells us that the shades are easy to fit and that each one weighs around one kilogram.
Shades from the Aztec Collection are £65 and the colours available at launch include:-
Rosado (Pink)
Azul Marino (Navy blue)
Bebe Marino (Baby blue)
Gris (Grey)
Purpura (Purple)
