Zimbabwe comes to Birmingham with Faraii Simoyi

Saturday 4th July sees the West Midlands city of Birmingham transformed into a Zimbabwean centre of fashion excellence, with a 24-hour event that kicks off at mid-day. Here at Africa Fashion, we are all about celebrating the amazing depth of talent that the continent has to offer – and today is a fantastic opportunity to experience some of that talent.

Centred on the Crown Banqueting venue, tickets for this exhibition are available from Eventbrite – but it’s worth noting that at the time of going to press only the £30 regular tickets are left – as all of the VIP slots have sold out.

Organiser Chiedza Ziyambe (famous for her Miss Chii Luxury Lingerie range) says that her team were inspired by Africa Fashion Week London and wanted to bring a specific event to the UK for Zimbabwe.

Guest designers include Faraii Simoyi – who is the key stylist for Nicki Minaj.

At Africa Fashion, we recently surveyed a cross section of countries to try and understand levels of pay across Africa. In light of the negative media coverage that Zimbabwe generally receives in the press, we were pleasantly surprised to see that its citizens enjoy one of the highest levels of average pay across the continent.

Speaking to the press recently, Chiedza explained, “Our UK celebration of all things Zimbabwean – fashion, art and design related – will be the first showcase of its kind in the UK”.

“I’m so excited, because there is a real hunger for African couture and street fashions here in recent years. African designs and apparel have yet to really achieve their rightful place in the global fashion market – but it is happening and we want to bring it here to Birmingham, at the heart of the UK”.

“We want professionals from a range of industries to bring their enthusiasm and expertise to the tables of guests and industry leaders at this exciting event by getting in touch as soon as possible”, said Chiedza.

With 23 degree weather is expected and the rain has promised to stay away – leaving the way clear for Chiedza and her team to deliver an amazing event.
